Program ( 13 Hours )

Tour Plan

Our journey begins with a departure from your hotel in Izmir at 7:15 am. We'll meet our knowledgeable guide in Selçuk before heading to Pamukkale, a scenic drive that takes approximately three hours, including a brief stop for rest and refreshments.

Pamukkale, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its stunning travertine terraces and hot springs, believed to possess healing properties. The terraces are formed through a complex chemical process, where water rich in calcium bicarbonate springs forth at a temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius. As carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide evaporate, calcium carbonate precipitates, creating the beautiful travertine formations.

The ancient city of Hierapolis, founded around the 2nd Century BC, has a rich history shaped by various cultures and religions. Traditionally attributed to Eumenes II, the Attalid king of Pergamon, Hierapolis is thought to have been named after Hiera, the wife of Telephos, the legendary founder of Pergamon. However, ancient historians like Strabon and Ptolemaios suggest that it was originally a Phrygian settlement.

Hierapolis played a crucial role in the spread of Christianity in Anatolia, notably as the site where Philip, one of Jesus Christ's twelve apostles, is believed to have died. In the 4th century AD, it became a significant religious center and later came under Roman control in 395 AD, establishing itself as a metropolitan bishopric.

During our tour of Hierapolis, we will explore various significant sites, including the Necropolis, Domitian Gate, Frontinus Street, Agora, North Byzantine Gate, Gymnasium, the Triton Fountain, Apollon Temple, the Martyrium of St. Philip, the Column Church, the Basilica ruins, Plutonium, Latrina, and the Roman Baths. Our guide will lead us through the key attractions for about one and a half hours, after which you’ll have free time to explore. If you wish to take a dip, don’t forget to bring your swimwear for a visit to Cleopatra’s Pool, though please note that there is an additional entrance fee of 250 lira not included in the tour price.

Following our adventure through Hierapolis and the stunning travertines, we will return to Izmir, arriving at approximately 8:30 pm, where you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
