Tour Plan

Priene
Our journey begins in the ancient city of Priene, which played a significant role during the Byzantine era and is strategically located between Miletus and Ephesus. The highlight of Priene is the Temple of Athena, majestically situated atop a hill. Don't miss the chance to visit the ancient theater, notable for its five prominent king's seats in the front row. Capable of accommodating 6,500 spectators, this Hellenistic-era theater is unique in that it remains untouched by Roman renovations, allowing visitors to experience its remarkable acoustics firsthand. Priene also boasted a harbor and was one of the twelve Ionian cities, known for its wealth and luxury. Impressively, nearly one-third of its citizens had private bathrooms, a high standard for that time.

Didyma
Our final stop is Didyma, an ancient city renowned for its prophetic oracles. The Temple of Apollo in Didyma, designed as a dipteros (featuring two rows of columns), remains a striking historical site despite never being completed. Although Didyma is relatively small, its historical significance and the awe-inspiring ruins make it a worthwhile addition to your tour.

Join us on this captivating exploration of Priene, Miletus, and Didyma, where history comes alive at every turn!

Miletus
Next, we travel to Miletus, located to the north of Didyma and south of Priene. This coastal city was once home to four bustling ports, contributing to its prominence as a vital settlement during the Ionian period. Miletus thrived during its golden age in the 6th and 7th centuries BC. Here, you'll explore the Hellenistic theater, originally built to seat 5,300 people but later expanded by the Romans to accommodate 15,000. Not far from the theater, you'll find the Ilyas Bey Mosque, dating back to 1404, which served both as a place of worship and a school. Additionally, the Miletus Museum showcases a fascinating collection of jewelry and artifacts unearthed from the site.
